Sports Medicine
By nature of their training and experience, sports medicine physicians are ideally suited to provide comprehensive medical care for athletes, sports teams or active individuals who are simply looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The Sports Medicine Specialist can maximize non-operative treatment, guide appropriate referrals for physical therapy, and if necessary expedite referral to an orthopedic surgeon.
Sports Medicine Specialists are ideal physicians for the non-athlete as well, and are excellent resources for the individual who wishes to become more active or begin an exercise program. For the “weekend warrior” who experiences an injury, the same expertise used in the care of the competitive athlete can be applied to return you to work or sport as quickly as possible.
Regardless of the level of athletic involvement of the patient, expertise in sports medicine results in quicker diagnosis, more effective treatments, faster recovery, and overall better outcomes in injury management. Here is a list of services offered:
- Sports physicals
- Injury assessment and management
- Sports psychology
- Counseling for substance / supplement use and abuse
- Concussion management
- Medical illness in the athlete
- Communication with coaches, physical therapist, trainers, etc.
- Fracture care
- Exercise prescription / lifestyle modification
- Injury prevention
